In ZEBULUN, Anne Reid Artist captures the essence of destiny and movement through abstract expressionism. The painting features a striking contrast between deep purples and an electrifying green cloud, which appears to descend from the heavens. Below, a small group of figures stands illuminated by scattered golden lights, evoking a sense of purpose and journey.
The name ZEBULUN references the biblical tribe associated with trade, the sea, and divine provision. The composition reflects this theme, suggesting a moment of revelation, a calling to venture beyond the familiar. The dynamic brushwork and textured layering create a sense of both turbulence and wonder, as if the scene exists between realms—earthly and celestial.
The figures, rendered in deep red, stand in stark contrast to their surroundings. They appear to be waiting, watching, or preparing for what comes next. The green cloud above them, almost ethereal in its motion, suggests divine intervention, guiding them toward an unseen destiny. The interplay of light and darkness emphasizes the tension between the known and the unknown, faith and action.
Through this piece, Reid invites the viewer to consider their own journey—where they stand, what they seek, and what forces may be leading them forward. ZEBULUN is more than an image; it is an experience of movement, mystery, and divine navigation.
Jesus Begins His Ministry in Galilee
12 Now when Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee. 13 He left Nazareth and made his home in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, 14 so that what had been spoken through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:
15 “Land of Zebulun, land of Naphtali,
on the road by the sea, across the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles—
16 the people who sat in darkness
have seen a great light,
and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death
light has dawned.”
17 From that time Jesus began to proclaim, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”
Matthew 4:12-17, New Revised Standard Version
