Artwork Statement

I painted Ruth thinking about the courage it takes to keep showing up when life has been stripped back to the basics. Ruth is out in the field, doing the humble work in front of her, but the sky behind her is blazing with promise.

The figure stands in the foreground, anchored and unapologetically present. Behind her, small silhouettes move through the field, gathering what they can. The story is rooted in Scripture, but I wanted it to feel open enough that anyone who has walked through loss and chosen to keep going can see themselves here.

For me, this piece is about being seen by God in the ordinary — the way a simple act of faith can become the doorway to an entirely new future.

Colour & Mood

• Vibrant orange and pink sky, suggesting warmth, promise and the nearness of God.
• Deep cobalt and indigo blues in the field for a sense of depth, mystery and evening light.
• Golden ochre baskets and harvest accents that hint at abundance and provision.

This fine art print is a faithful full-image reproduction of the original vertical composition: no figures, baskets or key elements have been added or removed. Minor adjustments have been made in the digital file to balance contrast and saturation so that the sky and field reproduce accurately across paper, canvas, metal and acrylic, while preserving the brushwork and character of the original artwork.
