Summary
In Ruth, Anne Reid Artist paints a lone gleaner standing in a field at dusk, framed by an intense orange-pink sky and deep bands of blue. The distant figures and scattered baskets suggest a shared harvest, while the central figure carries a sense of steady devotion and quiet hope. This vertical figurative work blends narrative, atmosphere and bold colour for homes, churches and hospitality spaces that honour faithfulness and provision.
Artwork Statement
I painted Ruth thinking about the courage it takes to keep showing up when life has been stripped back to the basics. Ruth is out in the field, doing the humble work in front of her, but the sky behind her is blazing with promise.
The figure stands in the foreground, anchored and unapologetically present. Behind her, small silhouettes move through the field, gathering what they can. The story is rooted in Scripture, but I wanted it to feel open enough that anyone who has walked through loss and chosen to keep going can see themselves here.
For me, this piece is about being seen by God in the ordinary — the way a simple act of faith can become the doorway to an entirely new future.
Colour & Mood
- Vibrant orange and pink sky, suggesting warmth, promise and the nearness of God.
- Deep cobalt and indigo blues in the field for a sense of depth, mystery and evening light.
- Golden ochre baskets and harvest accents that hint at abundance and provision.
- Soft neutrals in Ruth’s dress to ground the scene and keep the figure approachable.
- Overall mood: hopeful, steadfast, quietly courageous and story-rich.
Design Notes
- Vertical composition that naturally draws the eye upward from the deep blue foreground into the blazing sky.
- Ruth is placed slightly off-centre, creating a dynamic balance between figure, horizon and the distant workers.
- Baskets step forward in perspective, leading the viewer into the scene and hinting at a path or journey.
- Loose, expressive brushwork in the sky contrasts with more defined forms in the figure and harvest details.
- The strong silhouette of Ruth acts as a focal point, while the small figures at the back reward slower viewing.
Where It Works
- Living room feature wall where you want a conversation-starting piece with both narrative and colour impact.
- Hallway or entry where visitors are greeted by a sense of welcome, perseverance and blessing.
- Home office or study as a reminder to stay faithful in the work entrusted to you.
- Prayer room or quiet corner, paired with a chair, small table and lamp for reflection.
- Church foyers, counselling spaces or ministry offices that minister to those in transition or rebuilding seasons.
Pairing Ideas
- Pair with Ruth & Boaz, print for a visual journey from gleaning in the field to covenant connection.
- Hang alongside The Apple 3, print to echo the theme of Israel as the apple of God’s eye.
- Combine with Ruth Harvest 5, print to emphasise abundance, harvest and the faithfulness of God across seasons.

Print Options & Materials
- Fine art paper – Archival paper with a soft, painterly surface that suits the brushwork and gentle gradients in the sky.
- Canvas – Ready-to-hang, gallery-wrapped canvas that echoes the feel of the original painting.
- Metal – Sleek, modern presentation that deepens the blues and makes the oranges glow; ideal for contemporary spaces.
- Acrylic – Glossy, luminous finish that amplifies colour and detail, perfect for bright, design-forward interiors.
Bathroom Suitability
Ruth can work beautifully in a powder room or ensuite where you would like a quiet yet uplifting focal point. For spaces with more humidity, I recommend metal or acrylic prints; in a well-ventilated powder room, framed paper behind glazing is also a good choice.
Sizing Guidance (4:5 vertical aspect)
This artwork is offered in a 4:5 vertical aspect. Available print sizes typically include 8 x 10 in, 16 x 20 in, 20 x 25 in and 24 x 30 in (please see the size menu on this page for current options).
- Choose smaller sizes (around 8 x 10 in or 12 x 15 in) for intimate nooks, desks or layered gallery walls.
- Medium sizes (16 x 20 in or 20 x 25 in) work well above consoles, benches or in hallways.
- Larger prints (24 x 30 in and up) create a strong focal point above a sofa or in a feature alcove.
As a simple rule of thumb, aim for a print width that is about 60–75% of the furniture below it, and hang the centre of the artwork at roughly 57–60 in from the floor.
Quality & Care
- Printed with archival inks by a professional fine art lab for long-lasting colour and detail.
- Each print is made to order and inspected before it leaves the lab.
- Canvas, metal and acrylic options arrive ready to hang with appropriate hardware.
- Keep out of direct, harsh sunlight for the longest life, and dust gently with a soft, dry cloth.
- For framed paper prints, use UV-protective glazing and avoid overly damp environments.
Integrity Notes
The original Ruth painting is an acrylic on canvas measuring 16 x 20 in, created in 2023 and currently available. This fine art print is a faithful full-image reproduction of the original vertical composition: no figures, baskets or key elements have been added or removed. Minor adjustments have been made in the digital file to balance contrast and saturation so that the sky and field reproduce accurately across paper, canvas, metal and acrylic, while preserving the brushwork and character of the original artwork.
