Summary
In Ruth Covenant Borders, Anne Reid Artist places Ruth in a sea of cobalt blue, gathering grain while a fiery orange sky burns along the horizon. A painted border draws colour from the canvas itself, giving this square print a framed, contemplative quality that sits comfortably in prayer spaces, living rooms, and hospitality settings.
Artwork Statement
I painted Ruth while meditating on the quiet courage of a woman who keeps showing up in the field after loss. Ruth walks into a new land with almost nothing and chooses loyalty, trust, and steady work in the harvest.
In this Covenant Borders variant, I gathered the edges of the painting into a square frame of layered colour. The border hints at shawls, flags, and the sense of God’s covenant surrounding ordinary, daily labour.
The distant gleaners, scattered baskets, and long shoreline speak to intercession for Israel: humble gathering, patient faith, and the belief that something holy is happening right in the middle of practical work.
Colour & Mood
- Deep cobalt and ultramarine blues create a calm ground beneath Ruth’s feet.
- Intense oranges, corals, and magentas in the sky suggest a burning presence and first light over the shoreline.
- Warm clay browns and golds in the baskets add an earthy, grounded note.
- The white apron and lighter skin tones offer clear contrast against the saturated blues.
- The painted border repeats these hues, giving the print an icon-like, framed feeling that suits meditation and prayer.
Design Notes
- Ruth’s figure sits slightly to the right of centre so the viewer feels drawn into the field rather than locked in the middle of the frame.
- A line of baskets steps forward from the bottom right, leading the eye into the painting and back toward the gleaners at the shoreline.
- The sloping shoreline directs the gaze toward the glow at the horizon, hinting at an unseen source of light and promise.
- The square border stabilises the composition on the wall and helps it hang cleanly as a single piece or in a grid with other Covenant Borders works.
- Visible brushwork and texture keep the broad areas of blue and orange lively rather than flat.
Where It Works
- Prayer rooms, intercession corners, or home altars with a focus on Israel and covenant themes.
- Living rooms or family rooms that can hold a strong colour statement anchored by deep blue and ember orange.
- Home offices or studios where you want a reminder of perseverance, gleaning, and daily faithfulness.
- Church foyers, counselling rooms, or small chapels shaped by prayer for Israel and the nations.
- Hospitality corridors or guest suites where a square format is easy to centre over a console or small sofa.
Pairing Ideas
- Hang with Burning Bush 9, print for a vivid covenant pairing in ember orange and royal purple.
- Pair with Burning Bush 8, print to echo the glowing tree motif in a second square from the Covenant Borders series.
- Add Ezekiel 7, print for a trio of theophany-inspired works centred on encounter and calling.
- For a companion landscape that feels more expansive, consider Wilderness, print nearby or across the room.

Print Options & Materials
- Fine art paper prints — beautiful framed under acrylic or glass, ideal for prayer corners, home offices, and quieter spaces.
- Canvas prints — a soft, painterly surface that feels close to the original, well suited to living rooms, foyers, or hospitality corridors.
- Metal prints — saturated colour and a clean, modern edge that works especially well for Israel-focused spaces, hallways, and contemporary interiors.
- Acrylic prints — glossy depth and crisp detail for statement walls or light-filled rooms where you want the colours to glow.
Bathroom Suitability
For humid bathrooms, I recommend metal or acrylic prints for durability and easy cleaning. In small, dry powder rooms, a framed paper print works well; in larger, dry bathrooms, canvas can be used when hung away from direct steam.
Sizing Guidance (Square aspect)
This artwork is offered as a 1:1 square. Sizes range from small, intimate squares for prayer nooks and desks to larger statement formats such as 36 x 36 in for feature walls. Please refer to the size menu on this page for the exact options available in each material.
- Choose smaller squares for clustered gallery walls, bedside areas, or compact prayer corners.
- Medium sizes work well above consoles, small sofas, or in church foyers.
- Larger squares make a strong focal point in living rooms, hospitality corridors, or sanctuary side aisles.
As a simple guide, aim for artwork that is about 60–75% of the width of the furniture below it, with the centre of the piece roughly 57–60 in from the floor.
Quality & Care
- Printed with archival inks on professional-grade substrates through a trusted fine art lab.
- Each piece is carefully colour-checked so the deep blues and ember oranges stay true to the intent of the original painting.
- Prints ship ready to frame or hang, depending on the material you choose.
- Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth; avoid harsh cleaners or direct, prolonged sunlight.
- For best longevity, hang away from persistent moisture, heat sources, or outdoor exposure.
Integrity Notes
The original painting Ruth is acrylic on canvas, approximately 16 x 20 in (vertical), painted in 2023 and currently available from my studio. Ruth Covenant Borders, print is an open-edition fine art print created from that original image. For this variant, I adapted the composition into a 1:1 square by gently cropping the top and bottom of the scene and adding a painted border that samples colour and texture from the original edges. Overall colour and contrast are tuned slightly for clarity in print, but no new narrative elements have been added or removed.
